Indoor Sandbox: Beach!

So, this morning I showed you what fun my 3 1/2 year old had with construction vehicles and counting in our indoor sandbox.  My 6-year-old daughter was up next.  Here is the benefit of not cleaning up parts of my house, namely our craft room, for several months. It’s a wreck, but I looked down on the floor, next to our newly created indoor sandbox,  and saw a pile of dollhouse figures and one of those little paper umbrellas that you get in a fancy drink at a restaurant.  Toys played with who knows when and then abandoned. And I thought, Beach!

I grabbed a little box of sea shells, some more of those fancy paper umbrellas and a few other things and called to The Queen Bee.  She was thrilled and spent hours setting up and playing with her beach.

A paper towel and a scissors made for some easy-to-make beach towels.  She found a few other props, like a little shovel and bucket.  We added some small, plastic sea animals, too.

Then she photographed the scene, to remember it by.

Wait ’til you see what my 8-year-old son comes up with when it’s his turn.  I am so hoping the thrill of this indoor sandbox carries over into next winter.

What a fun idea. Is it a total mess. We have so many cats in the neighborhood that I have resisted a sandbox the last few years.

  3. This is so wonderful. We’re in the middle of winter here. I might do this to bring some summer indoors. I’ve pinned this to the Weekly Kid’s Co-op Pinterest board and I’ve featured it on my blog today as one of my faves from last week.
