Take a nature walk and collect some treasures. Be sure to get some that are living and some that are not.

Back at home, we talked about living vs. non-living things.

Living things need:

  • food
  • water
  • air

Living things move. Even flowers turn towards the sun and plants move as they grow.

Everything in our basket was living at one time, except for the rocks. All the leaves, flowers, sticks, nuts and seeds came from living plants.

Discussion questions for your child:

  1. What happens when leaves or nuts fall off of trees? Are they still living?
  2. Are computers living? How about robots? What about planets?  What about fire?
